The images that started everything 〰️
These came from a past life. Brief adventures between university holidays, open-ended creative sabbaticals where I needed a break from adulting, immersing myself in yoga teacher training in India or hiking through some mountains in Albania that a taxi driver told me about.
I was never documenting landmarks or the places the tourists flocked to. I was paying attention to what everyone else was walking past. The light on a dune face. A door too extraordinary to have no crowd around it. A person completely still in the middle of all the noise. The corner where the shadows fell exactly right for about ten minutes before the sun moved on.
These are the moments before the paint. Beforethe marks. The originals on the wall in my studio started here — same eye, same archive, same hard drive. These are the photographs in their own right.
