He was leaning against a carved stone column in the medina — blue djellaba, cigarette, completely still in the middle of all the noise. I took the photograph. Then I spent months trying to figure out what it needed.
The painted marks that grow out of the architecture around him are pulled from the zellige tilework on the walls — the same geometric language that covers every surface in the medina. I wasn't decorating the photograph. I was trying to speak the visual language of the place back into it. The marks go everywhere. Except him. He stays exactly as he was.
There is one of this. That's all there will ever be.
This work begins as Nomad — available as a photography print in the shop — and is transformed through layers of acrylic, marker and ink into something entirely new.
The finer details
Original 594 × 841mm (A1) artwork on 310gsm Hahnemühle Photo Rag. Matte, textured, archival — designed to last a lifetime. Includes certificate of authenticity. Unframed, edge-to-edge. Ships rolled in a sturdy kraft tube within 2–5 business days. Fits standard A1 frames, however to maintain longevity of such a special piece, it is recommended to frame professionally.
